2,500-cr tyre project at Chakan, India

The Maharashtra government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bridgestone India Private Limited to set up a tyre project in Chakan in Pune district in which it will invest Rs 2,555 cr over the next five years. Under the MoU, the company will start passenger car radial tyres production and truck and bus radial tyre production by 2013.

The project is expected to generate direct employment of 1,800. From the year 2020, there will be daily production of 10,000 radial tyres for passenger cars and 3,000 radial tyres for buses.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was present during the signing of the MoU with a Japanese delegation belonging to Bridgestone Corporation, the parent company of BIPL. At the function held at Sahyadri state guest house, Chavan also inaugurated the single window system of MIDC and gave property cards to industrialists.

Chavan said: “It is necessary to have good basic infrastructure facilities for industrial development. Therefore, we are focusing on improving the basic infrastructure in the state. We will make sure that industrialists are given all the facilities needed and extend red carpet to them for investing in the state.”
